The decision to release The Chimeric Protocols of Transmutation / The Book of Split Ink simultaneously in Spanish and English is more than a question of accessibility. It reflects the nature of the work itself.

The book is deeply rooted in Barcelona. The city is not simply a backdrop for the narrative; it gradually becomes part of the Chimeric system itself. Its streets, Roman foundations, markets, crypts, shelters, cloisters, factories, wounds, and thresholds form what the book ultimately describes as a kind of living, unwritten plate. The project also explicitly draws on Barcelonese figures and ways of understanding the city as historical memory, geometric structure, social body, archive, and system.

For that reason, a Spanish edition gives the work an immediate linguistic relationship with the environment from which so much of its imagery, geography, and cultural memory emerge.

But the project was never conceived as something that should remain locally enclosed.

Its central invention—the Chimeric Glyphic System—is itself an attempt to move between languages and even beyond the limitations of ordinary written language. The Protocols communicate through glyphs, pathways, scale, position, relation, and transformation rather than through words alone. Meaning arises from the interaction of those elements.

In that sense, publishing the work in two languages from the beginning reinforces one of its central ideas: no single linguistic form should claim complete ownership of meaning.

English gives the project a broader international field. Readers interested in experimental fiction, visual art, symbolic systems, diagrammatic literature, alchemy, or new relationships between image and text can encounter the same Chimeric structure regardless of whether Spanish is available to them.

The simultaneous release also avoids establishing one edition as the “original” cultural experience and the other merely as a later translation. The two editions can instead be understood as parallel manifestations of the same underlying work.

That feels particularly appropriate for a book built around duality.

The Protocols and The Book of Split Ink already exist as two interdependent entities. Gala and Salvador exist as blue and red consciousnesses within one shared field. The reader moves between plate and narrative, image and language, structure and experience.

Spanish and English add another relational pair.

The visual language remains constant while the verbal language changes.

A glyph does not become Spanish or English. A pathway does not require translation. The geometry of relation survives both editions. What changes is the linguistic surface through which the narrative consciousness is experienced.

So the bilingual launch can be seen as an extension of the Chimeric principle itself:

one work, two linguistic bodies, a shared symbolic architecture.

The Spanish edition keeps the work close to the city and cultural territory from which it grows.

The English edition allows that territory to open outward.

And between them, the Chimeric system demonstrates something central to its ambition: that meaning can cross languages without becoming identical in each one.

The source material does not explicitly state the publishing rationale for the simultaneous bilingual release; the explanation above is an interpretation based on the book’s documented relationship to Barcelona, duality, and the CGS as a visual-relational language.

About the Chimeric Glyphic System

The Chimeric Glyphic System (CGS) is an experimental visual language that brings image and literature into a shared field of meaning. Through glyphs, pathways, scale, relation, recursion, and transformation, CGS invites the reader to do more than look at an image or follow a narrative: it asks us to read visually, interpret relationally, and participate actively in the work.
