Open the book at any of its paired compositions and you encounter two forms of writing.
On the left, a plate from The Chimeric Protocols of Transmutation: a visual construction shaped by glyphs, pathways, boundaries and relations. On the right, a passage from The Book of Split Ink: the corresponding narrative world experienced through Gala and Salvador.
Neither page is simply an explanation of the other. The image is not decorative, and the prose is not a caption. Each makes another reading of the same transformational problem possible.
This is the duplex principle at the heart of the book. An image can be read spatially, with multiple relationships present at once. A story unfolds sequentially, in time. Placing them together asks the reader to move between these ways of knowing.
The reader becomes a third participant: the Alchemist, who connects image and text through attention, comparison and return.
For me, the book is most alive when neither page settles the meaning of the other. The space between them becomes the place where interpretation begins.
