A city can be a system of memory, structure and transformation.
At first, Barcelona appears to be where the story happens.

Then the city begins to answer back.
The Protocols move through cemeteries, gardens, hidden rooms, markets, streets, old structures and forgotten thresholds.

Roots enter the city.

Trees begin to walk.

Traffic systems become botanical.

Former cages remain as geometries in the landscape.

A map stops showing streets and begins showing necessities.

A city that seemed to be a setting becomes an active participant.
This is important because Barcelona was never intended to be scenery.

The city carries several kinds of memory at once.

Its Roman foundations.

Its geometry.

Its wounds.

Its markets and courtyards.

Its shelters, cloisters, factories, hills and labyrinths.

Its visible architecture and the structures that survive only as traces.

The Chimeric system recognizes something in this accumulation:

a city is already a kind of glyph.
A glyph is not simply a sign.

It is a relation made visible.

Barcelona is full of such relations.

Street to building.

Building to body.

Memory to place.

Geometry to movement.

Past to present.

Surface to buried structure.

When Gala looks at the city, she sees networks, coordinates and architecture.

When Salvador enters it, he feels what has accumulated there.

Neither perception is sufficient by itself.
Then the city begins to change their perception.

A stag appears whose antlers carry diagrams that resemble constellations, nerve trees, urban grids and equations.

Gala realizes that observation itself affects the configuration.

She can no longer pretend that she is standing outside what she observes.

The city has entered the experiment.

And the observer has entered the city.
This is where the Protocols leave the page.

Not because the book suddenly becomes a guide to Barcelona.

But because Barcelona becomes another body of the work.

A living plate.

An unwritten continuation.

The glyph no longer needs paper to exist.

It can be buried in stone.

Drawn by roots.

Held in a street plan.

Remembered by a building.

Felt by a person passing through a place without knowing why.
The question is no longer:

Where does the story take place?

It becomes:

What happens when the place begins to read us back?
