How do you write what people actually want to read?

Write for yourself first: Create the exact story or article you wish existed in the world, which naturally attracts people who share your exact tastes.

Finding your ideal audience takes deliberate effort because writing a good book does not automatically bring you the right readers.  Millions of new books and articles fight for attention every single day. A book can fail if it reaches people who do not like that genre or style. Readers gather in small online groups based on specific interests, making them hard to locate.

So the challenge is not “What should I write about?”, but “Where are the readers interested in my topic?”. Adjusting your writing to what people want to read about is like starting to live in someone else’s head. It’s highly disaster prone.

If you want to become rich or famous, there are better ways than to engage in a literary/artistical lifestyle. Only about 0,2% can afford it. Better have a plan B to provide for a roof over your head and bread upon the table. Jesus also preached into the desert, Van Gogh painted for future generations, and Pessoa’s works were accidentally discovered by a literary researcher in an abandoned crate stored at an abandoned atic.

You have to aim to create something that may survive YOU and not something that is putting YOU into the spotlights.
