29. The Rubáiyát — Omar Khayyam

Time here is a random field; the poet’s counsel to embrace ephemeral pleasures acts like a local energy minimization strategy: if global potentials are uncertain, maximize present coherence (wine, company). The poet’s skepticism toward teleological narratives is a refusal to accept large-scale unification without empirical evidence. In SLM terms, Khayyam models a stochastic universe where the best policy is a local action that increases entropy-aware satisfaction. His verses are thus efficient operators—compressing cosmological doubt into human-scale prescriptions that conserve psychological mass.
