It should have been done ages ago, but all the currently available versions contain more footnotes than actual prose. Even after removing the foreign language idiosyncrasies and streamlining Joyce’s prose, the stream-of-consciousness concept of the novel makes that it is still a difficult read.

I agree with you: also the stream of consciousness technique, if not perceived well, makes reading difficult.

It’s a novel that grows in your mind and in the end, everyone walks away with his own interpretation of the text.
