Today was my turn to do the cooking. I choose to make an old time favorite of mine: chicken soup. It’s an easy recipe and while you’re doing the vegetable cutting, your mind has plenty of time to wander around . Although keep your eyes on the knife blade if you want to remain attached to your fingers.
Literature is never far from the front of my mind and I wondered what happened to this famous “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book that floated around the bestseller lists during the nineties. The book became something of a social phenomenon because of its ability to change others’ perspective on certain topics. It averred it multiplied into sequels like:
- Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul
- Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cat Did What?
- Chicken Soup for the Chiropractic Soul
- Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just Us Girls
- Chicken Soup for the NASCAR Soul
- Chicken Soup for the Network Marketer’s Soul
- Chicken Soup for the Woman Golfer’s Soul
- and of course, Chicken Soup for the Writer’s Soul.
- on the next link you can find the whole list of chicken soup books…
… all of them of course with their fitting commercial spin-offs. I’m kind of astonished how this simple topic turned into some mega big business concept over the last decade.
The wisdom of the chicken soup emanates from its simplicity. You need a good recipe, the right ingredients, a little of dedication and some patience. You can extrapolate this method to many facets of life.
And then my mind, who likes to wander away, got lost into some research I did for my latest artistic project about resonant transformers. The air-core transformer known as the Tesla coil can generate an output voltage of several million volts. Tesla used it in his experiments on X-rays and wireless energy transfer. The device has since been applied to wireless telegraphy and electrotherapy. Nowadays it is viewed more as a curiosity than a necessary tool and often presented at electricity demonstrations. It produces spectacular lightning by resonating with the Earth’s electromagnetic field.
It’s possible that some readers of this post may think I’ve lost it here. Well, I admit, my wife thinks that also very often. Various resonant coupling systems in use or are under development for short range (up to 2 meters) wireless electricity systems to power laptops, tablets, smart phones, robot vacuums, implanted medical devices, and vehicles like electric cars, SCMaglev trains and automated guided vehicles.
And there I could put my mind on track again. As many artists, I try to achieve a unity of thinking and doing into my daily life. So it’s perfectly normal to think that making chicken soup is an artistic activity that is through some inductive coupling related to my writing. The proof of the pudding is into the eating.

Absolutely great 👍
