Hamlet is the Standard Model drama of undecay: a particle with every reason to interact yet trapped in a metastable state of hesitation. His mind is an overpopulated phase space, crowded with virtual possibilities—each thought a diagram branching into infinite loops of doubt. Claudius serves as the weak force, subtle and insinuating, enabling transformations that violate moral flavor while preserving the kingdom’s façade. Ophelia is a fragile bound state destabilized by measurement: observed too closely, she collapses. The ghost is the narrative’s gauge boson, a messenger from an unobservable sector that forces a reconfiguration of Hamlet’s internal symmetry. Every monologue is a renormalization attempt, an effort to subtract infinities from his grief and rage. But the equations never quite balance, and the system decays catastrophically into a final tableau of zero survivors: a complete energy release, elegiac and inevitable. Shakespeare’s insight is brutal physics: sometimes the cost of action is fatal, and the cost of inaction is the same.
