Beowulf is a massive baryon—heroic, dense with strength—colliding with monstrous excitations at the edges of the human field. Grendel is a rogue particle born from an exiled lineage; Grendel’s mother a deeper, older force from an unseen sector. The dragon in the final act is entropy itself, the ultimate reminder that no excitation endures forever. Beowulf’s battles are high-energy interactions revealing both power and vulnerability; each victory leaves behind new instabilities. The poem’s worldview is heroic but somber: glory radiates brightly yet briefly, and even the mightiest particle decays. Community remains the only lasting structure—fragile but essential—holding back the night.
